Celebrating Our Shared Humanity
Through The Arts
Breaking Down Walls highlights how performance arts can build common ground for recognition and celebration of shared humanity. We explore what it means to transcend today’s deeply felt divisions along political, religious, social, racial and economic lines.

J & J Arts Initiative
Announcing the first J & J Arts Initiative 2021-22 project, made possible by a special endowment: Breaking Down Walls.
Breaking Down Walls consists of five grantees selected to create new works focused on “The Wall.” Each will use his/her own respective medium(s) and artistic vision to explore how art can unite. We hope these new works will both influence the present, and have important repercussions on future generations. The culmination of the work was performed live June 11, 2022 at The Cowell Theater, Fort Mason.
This performance has been designated a fundraiser to help the people of Ukraine.
A documentary produced by Derrick Scocchera chronicling the making of the Breaking Down Walls will be available to stream over the internet in 2023.
